The Art Pack supports healing and creative talent
At Land of Hope, art is much more than creativity. It is an important part of supporting the children’s mental health. Every child at Land of Hope has experienced violence, neglect, fear and severe trauma after being accused of witchcraft. Many struggle to put their feelings and experiences into words. Here, art becomes a safe space where they can express emotions that are too painful to speak about.
Some children paint the traumatic experiences they have survived. Others paint their dreams and hopes for the future. Surrounded by colours, canvases and brushes, they find peace, focus and joy. At the same time, they develop creative skills and learn artistic techniques together with art teacher Joeberry in the art classroom at the children’s centre.
That is why Land of Hope needs support to purchase paint, canvases and art supplies, so every child can access art education and creative development.
Art became Destiny’s turning point
Destiny was rescued by Land of Hope in 2015 after villagers had kept him captive while planning to burn him alive because they believed he was a witch. He was deeply traumatised, violently aggressive and close to death when he arrived at Land of Hope.
For years, he struggled with anger and emotional distress. But everything changed the first time he stepped into the art classroom.
Today, Destiny uses art to tell his story and help the other children express themselves. In 2023, he opened up about his traumatic past through a painting called “Break the Chain”.
The Art Pack helps Land of Hope give more children the same opportunity to heal, grow and believe in a future filled with hope.
