The Awareness Pack fights the root cause of superstition
Land of Hope rescues children who are accused of witchcraft. But if we truly want to save more children, we must address the core of the problem: ignorance.
In poor villages, where many children do not attend school and adults lack access to knowledge, superstition grows. When illness, death or accidents strike, a vacuum of fear emerges. In that fear, superstition becomes the explanation – and all too often, children end up carrying the blame.
That is why Land of Hope’s awareness work is so crucial. We bring together villagers, chiefs and religious leaders for meetings where we create dialogue around children’s rights, human rights, and the severe consequences of witchcraft accusations against children.
This is a responsibility that should belong to the local authorities – but one they continue to neglect, at the cost of human lives every day.
With the Awareness Pack, we can fund printed materials, sound equipment, transport and the community gatherings that make it possible to reach the villages where the problem is most severe.
When we spread knowledge, we save more children
Knowledge is the key to change. It was the same in Europe, when society slowly moved away from the witch hunts of the past. When people gain access to new ideas, education and dialogue, the fear that keeps superstition alive begins to weaken.
We see this clearly when some of the older children from Land of Hope travel with us to the villages and share their own stories. They stand before the very people who once called them witches, and through their strength, education and joy for life, they show that superstition has no foundation.
That creates hope – not only for the individual child, but for the entire village.
