This painting is created by Joy, who was rescued in 2018.
It was Joy’s stepfather who accused her of being a witch. She had no other choice but to leave the village, where she had lived her whole life. The community did not want to have anything to do with her.
She was living on the street with Nsidibe and Ezekiel, when Land of Hope was alerted about their cases. All 3 of them were rescued. We are still trying to locate Joy’s family but so far, we have only found her uncle.
Joy is truly the epitome of joy. She is always smiling and positive. She loves to paint and knit, and she is very creative and skilled in all kinds of needlework. When Anja is at Land of Hope, Joy wants to sit close to her and hug and cuddle. She always braids Anja’s hair and is just a really loving girl.
Children’s art
Art plays an important role in the children’s development and healing process, as it enables them to express past traumas, while also giving room for creative expressions of ideas and dreams for the present and future.
As one Joy once told Anja in art class: ”I feel free when I paint”.
When you purchase a painting created by the children at Land of Hope, you give them a voice in the world that once rejected them. Your support not only heals their wounds, but it also gives them a feeling of being worthy and loved.
All the money from the sale of the children’s art goes entirely to Land of Hope.
