This painting is created by Mary, who was rescued in 2017.
”I was dreaming that the white woman would also come and take me with her.”
Almost 12 years ago, we rescued Daniel. He was accused of being a witch and people wanted to kill him. Only 7 years old. When we came to the village to rescue Daniel, many people gathered around. Tension and hostility were in the air.
Anja looked around and saw a lot of children watching me with curious eyes. They had never seen a white person before. What Anja did not know at the time was that among all the children who watched her, was also Mary. And what Mary did not know was that exactly 5 years later, the same people would gather around her.
5 years after we rescued Daniel, we got a phone call. A girl from the same village was accused of being a witch. It was Mary and people wanted to kill her. While Mary was living on the street, begging for food during the day and hiding in the bushes during the night, she was dreaming about the white woman who came to take Daniel.
Mary loves her life at Land of Hope, where she spends a lot of time being creative. She is also a very good runner and has participated in several athletics competitions. Unfortunately, Mary suffers from epilepsy and despite medication, she is limited in her physical activities. Therefore, she spends a lot of her free time painting and singing. She has the most beautiful voice.
Children’s art
Art plays an important role in the children’s development and healing process, as it enables them to express past traumas, while also giving room for creative expressions of ideas and dreams for the present and future.
As one of our children (Joy) once told Anja in art class: ”I feel free when I paint”.
When you purchase a painting created by the children at Land of Hope, you give them a voice in the world that once rejected them. Your support not only heals their wounds, but it also gives them a feeling of being worthy and loved.
All the money from the sale of the children’s art goes entirely to Land of Hope.
