The Mother’s Pack provides emergency relief for a mother living in extreme poverty
Although Land of Hope’s mission is to protect children accused of witchcraft, we care deeply about the whole family. All of our children come from families living in poverty. Their siblings may still be in the village, and in most cases their mother is left behind alone. For the children’s healing, it is vital that they still have their family.

In poor local communities, women are at the bottom of the social hierarchy. They face daily sexual and physical abuse and have no protection. If they become widows or are left alone in other ways, they themselves are at risk of witchcraft accusations and may be cast out of the village or even killed.

Their children do not survive that either.

With the Mother’s Pack, Land of Hope can provide mothers with food and medicine so they can survive and protect their children. This can help prevent even more witchcraft accusations against children.

When we support a mother, we strengthen the whole family
There is a saying: “When a woman thrives, the whole community rises with her.”

Idong and Essien’s mother is a powerful example of this. Every morning, she wakes before sunrise and walks to the fields. She is a hardworking woman – one of those quiet driving forces who form the backbone of the local community by helping secure food and fight poverty.

She is a key person in the change Nigeria needs – economically, environmentally and socially – because she contributes to sustainable development. Yet no one truly values her. She has five children and a husband living with cancer, and if she becomes a widow, she will face discrimination and her life will be in danger.

That is why it is so important that we support women like her.
