This painting is created by Peace, who was rescued in 2018 together with her sister Faith.
Anja and David were called to a town to investigate a case of two young girls accused of being witches. We found Peace and Faith along the seashore, both barefooted and dirty. The sisters had run away from home, fearing they would be killed.
They had both been severely beaten and tests carried out at the hospital also revealed, that they had been abused.
Peace is the oldest and the one that remembers the most. Initially, she was very happy with her new life at Land of Hope, being free and surrounded by people who cared for her. But after a while, her past experiences caught up with her. She became more introverted and withdrawn.
Land of Hope´s Director of Child Development and our team had many sessions with Peace. She also started to play football and paint in our art classes. It all had a tremendous positive effect on her self-esteem and self-image. She became stronger, more confident and out-going.
Not only is Peace one of the best football players among the girls and very good at painting, but she is also a talented drum player and has even participated in music competitions.
Children’s art
Art plays an important role in the children’s development and healing process, as it enables them to express past traumas, while also giving room for creative expressions of ideas and dreams for the present and future.
As one of our children (Joy) once told Anja in art class: ”I feel free when I paint”.
When you purchase a painting created by the children at Land of Hope, you give them a voice in the world that once rejected them. Your support not only heals their wounds, but it also gives them a feeling of being worthy and loved.
All the money from the sale of the children’s art goes entirely to Land of Hope.
