Sara’s parents died when she was very young, so her aunt (sister to Sarah´s father) took care of Sarah and her brother. However, due to extreme poverty, Sarah and her brother often left their aunt’s house and lived on the streets with other children in the same situation.
Sarah and her brother were not accused of being witches by any family member. It was on the streets they faced discrimination and abuse. They also fell victims to trafficking for various forms of forced labour.
Sarah managed to escape, and we found her alone on the streets, severely beaten.
Since 2015, Sarah’s aunt has searched for Sarah and her brother, but her health and old aged have made it a difficult task. However, last year in 2025, we found Sarah’s aunt after 7 years of searching for her. It was a very emotional and touching reunion that was so special to witness.
Sarah has always been super creative and talented and in 2025, she started university. We are very proud of all of her accomplishments.
Children’s art
Art plays an important role in the children’s development and healing process, as it enables them to express past traumas, while also giving room for creative expressions of ideas and dreams for the present and future.
As one of our children (Joy) once told Anja in art class: ”I feel free when I paint”.
