This painting is created by David Peter, who was rescued in 2023.
David Peter was an orphan, living with his aunty and uncle who one day accused him of using witchcraft to poison their food. They kicked him out of the house and he was tortured by local community member who used a hammer to break his bones. His two knee joints were broken and his front teeth was removed with a plier.
We rescued him before he was killed and was taken to Land of Hope by David Emmanuel Umem and our team.
Even though he had to go through a lot of surgeries, he has already developed so much both mentally and physically. He is really enjoying life at Land of Hope surrounded by much love and care. When he comes home from school, he loves to paint with the other children in art class, and he has also learned to play the piano.
Children’s Art
We use visual arts education as a therapeutic tool to support the children’s mental well-being. Many of them find it difficult to speak openly about their traumatic experiences. Art classes offer a safe and expressive outlet, allowing them to communicate emotions that can be challenging to articulate verbally.
Some children paint scenes related to what they have endured, while others focus on their hopes, dreams, and visions for the future. What they all share is remarkable artistic talent, and many have already won multiple talent competitions in Nigeria.
