At Land of Hope, sport is much more than play. It is an important part of the children’s healing. When children have experienced violence and trauma, as all the children at Land of Hope have, words do not always come easily. Here, movement becomes a therapeutic tool that helps release anxiety, anger and inner restlessness.
Football, athletics, running, dance and other activities give the children a safe space where they can reconnect with their bodies, be part of a community and experience success. As they master new skills, it strengthens their confidence and belief in themselves.
With the Sports Pack, Land of Hope can provide sportswear, shoes and equipment, so every child can take part in the activities we offer – activities that both support their mental healing and bring joy into everyday life.
Sport also opens doors to a new future
2025 became a special year when one of the children at Land of Hope, Itohowo, was selected for talent development at FC Ebedei – the academy that partners with FC Midtjylland.
Coaches and management from FC Midtjylland visited Land of Hope, and all the children had the chance to show what they could do. The visit sent a powerful message to the children: their dreams are taken seriously, and their past does not define their future.
For Itohowo, football became a turning point. Here, anger and trauma were transformed into focus, discipline and dedicated training. His selection is the result of many hours of hard work with Land of Hope’s sports coaches – and proof that sport can open the door to entirely new opportunities.
