Most children who arrive at Land of Hope are not only traumatised. They are also severely malnourished.
Many of the children have lived on the streets or suffered prolonged neglect. They arrive with weakened bodies, nutritional deficiencies and immune systems that struggle to fight even common infections.
For a growing child, malnutrition can have serious consequences. It affects physical development, energy levels, concentration and the body’s ability to fight disease.
That is why the first weeks after a rescue are often critical.
When a child arrives at Land of Hope, they are examined at the health clinic, where nurses assess their condition and begin the necessary treatment. Alongside nutritious meals, many children receive vitamins and minerals to help rebuild their strength and immune system.
The Vitamin Pack helps Land of Hope purchase Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, zinc and calcium, ensuring that the clinic always has these essential supplements in stock.
All children at Land of Hope receive three nutritious meals every day, but many still need additional vitamins and minerals. Some also live with chronic illnesses that require ongoing treatment and nutritional supplements.
Elijah slowly came back to life
When Elijah arrived at Land of Hope in 2017, he was deeply affected both physically and emotionally by the abuse he had endured.
After his mother died, his aunt accused him of being a witch. He was abandoned, abused and left to fend for himself. By the time he arrived at Land of Hope, he was malnourished, traumatised and covered in cuts and wounds.
Through treatment at the clinic, nutritious food, care and education, Elijah gradually regained his health and confidence in the future.
Today, he is a happy and caring boy who is doing well in school, loves reading books and enjoys playing football with his friends at Land of Hope.
