When a child is accused of witchcraft in Nigeria, the consequences are severe. The child is abandoned by their family and village, tortured, and in the worst cases killed. With the Rescue Pack, Land of Hope can respond immediately and rescue a child in danger.
We often receive calls from locals who have found a child in critical condition. In these moments, it is lifesaving that our emergency team is ready to move quickly with armed guards to bring the child to safety.
If the child needs urgent medical care, it is crucial that we can admit them to hospital immediately and pay for the necessary treatment. We must also protect the child’s rights and report the case to the authorities, where it will be investigated.

A new life at Land of Hope
When the child arrives at Land of Hope, our health clinic takes over. Nurses assess the child’s condition and begin treatment, while our nutrition team ensures the child receives the right food. Our caregivers provide clean clothes, a bath and a safe bed to sleep in. Slowly, the child can begin to come back to life again, and we support them every step of the way.
Like Destiny, who was only 8 years old when he was accused of being a witch. He was abandoned by his mother, and local villagers locked him inside a room while planning to burn him alive on a large fire. Land of Hope responded quickly when we received a call from one of the locals. We were able to rescue him and bring him to safety. He was close to death and needed immediate treatment at the hospital.
Destiny’s mother was arrested for abandoning her son and spent a long time in prison. When she was released, she reached out to Land of Hope to reconnect with her son. In 2023, she came to Land of Hope to visit Destiny. They had not seen each other for nearly 8 years. He was overjoyed to see his mother again, and today they share a strong and healthy relationship. Forgiveness does not change the past, but it gives the future a chance.
